11 - 19 November 2012:

Two Italian profiling float were deployed in the northeastern Ionian (south of Greece) Sea on 11-19 November 2012 from R/V Pourquoi Pas? (ULYSSE campaign). These floats are Arvor-I instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drift at the parking depth of 350 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent, and transmit data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface where it is localized by GPS. We thank Mrs. Lebreton and Mr. Treluyer and Lancelin for their help with the deployment logistics.

06 November 2012:

An Italian profiling float was successfully deployed in the Western Black Sea on 6 November 2012 from R/V Akademik with the help of oceanographers from the Institute of Oceanology, Varna, Bulgaria. This float is an Arvor-L instrument manufactured by NKE in France. It cycles between the surface and 700/1500 dbar every 5 days and drifts at the parking depth of 200 dbar. It measures temperature and salinity at each ascent, and transmits data to, and is localized by, the standard Argos satellite system when at surface. We thank Drs. Atanas Palazov and Violeta Slabakova and other colleagues from Varna for their cooperation. Photo gallery

18 September 2012:

An Italian profiling float was successfully deployed in the Levantine Basin on 18 September 2012 with the help of oceanographers from the Cyprus Oceanographic Center, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus. This float is an Arvor-I instrument manufactured by NKE in France. It cycles between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drifts at the parking depth of 350 dbar. It transmits data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface and is localized by GPS. We thank Dan Hayes and colleagues for carying out this deployment. Photo gallery

03 - 04 August 2012:

Two Italian profiling floats were successfully deployed in the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea and Ligurian Sea on 3 and 4 August 2012, respectively, from R/V Urania with the help of oceanographers from CNR/ISMAR, La Spezia, Italy. These floats are Arvor-I instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drift at the parking depth of 350 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent. They transmit data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface and are localized by GPS. We thank Mireno Borghini for carying out these deployments.
