17 August 2012:

An Italian profiling float was successfully deployed in the Western Black Sea on 17 August 2012 from R/V Akademik with the help of oceanographers from the Institute of Oceanology, Varna, Bulgaria. This float is an Arvor-L instrument manufactured by NKE in France. It cycles between the surface and 700/1500 dbar every 5 days and drifts at the parking depth of 200 dbar. It measures temperature and salinity at each ascent, and transmits data to, and is localized by, the standard Argos satellite system when at surface. We thank Drs. Atanas Palazov and Violeta Slabakova and other colleagues from Varna for their cooperation.

03 - 04 August 2012:

Two Italian profiling floats were successfully deployed in the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea and Ligurian Sea on 3 and 4 August 2012, respectively, from R/V Urania with the help of oceanographers from CNR/ISMAR, La Spezia, Italy. These floats are Arvor-I instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drift at the parking depth of 350 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent. They transmit data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface and are localized by GPS. We thank Mireno Borghini for carying out these deployments.

08 - 09 June 2012:

29 March 2012:

An Italian profiling float was successfully deployed in the Southern Adriatic Sea on 29 March 2012 from R/V Naše More with the help of oceanographers from the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research of Dubrovnik, Croatia. This float is an Arvor-L instrument manufactured by NKE in France. It cycles between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drifts at the parking depth of 350 dbar. It measures temperature and salinity at each ascent. It transmit data to, and is localized by, the standard Argos satellite system when at surface. We thank Drs. Mirna Batistic and Rade Garic and other colleagues from Dubrovnik for their cooperation. Photo gallery

10 - 17 March 2012:

Four Italian profiling floats were successfully deployed in the northern Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas between 10 and 17 March 2012 from R/V "Pourquoi Pas?" during the MOCOSED cruise with the help of oceanographers from SHOM (French Navy). These floats are Arvor-L instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drift at the parking depth of 350 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent and transmit data to, and is localized by, the standard Argos satellite system when at surface. We thank Dr. Thierry Garlan and colleagues for conducting the deployment operations. Photo gallery
