27 August 2013:

Three surface drifters were successfully deployed in the Eastern Levantine Sea on 27 Aug 2013 by colleagues from Lebanon. The drifters are SVP designs drogued to a 15-m nominal depth. They measure surface currents and temperature. Special thanks to Drs. Milad Fakhri and Gaby Khalaf for their effective collaboration. These deployments were also part of ALTIFLOAT, a cooperation program between France, Italy, Cyprus and Lebanon. Photo gallery

16 - 17 June 2013:

Six surface drifters were successfully deployed in the Malta Channel on 16-17 June 2013 by colleagues from Sicily and Malta. The drifters are SVP designs drogued to a 15-m nominal depth. They measure surface currents and temperature. Special thanks to Drs. Giuseppe Ciraolo and Adam Gauci for their effective collaboration. Photo gallery

15 - 22 May 2013:

The OGS Seaglider "Amerigo" was successfully operated in the southern Adriatic Sea between 15 and 22 May 2013. It performed about 100 yo-yo profiles reaching a maximum depth of 1000 m. Sensors onboard the glider measured temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll fluorescence and turbidity. The data were transmitted to the Iridium satellite system at each surfacing where the glider was localized by GPS. We thank the OGS glider team for their dedicated efforts during this mission: E. Mauri, R. Gerin, S. Kuckler, P. Zuppelli, P.-M. Poulain, A. Bussani, C. Fanara. Glider Glider mission Photo gallery

10 - 11 May 2013:

Two Italian profiling floats were successfully deployed in the southern Adriatic Sea on 10-11 May 2013 from R/V Urania. The floats are Arvor-I instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days (orginally every day) and drift at the parking depth of 350 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent, and transmit data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface where they are localized by GPS. We thank Mireno Borghini for the deployments. This is part of the SAVE project coordinated by Dr. Enrico Zambianchi.

23 March 2013:

An Italian profiling float was successfully deployed in the southern Adriatic Sea on 23 March 2013 from R/V OGS Explora. The float is an Arvor-I instrument manufactured by NKE in France. It cycles between the surface and 700/2000 dbar every 5 days and drifts at the parking depth of 350 dbar. It measures temperature and salinity at each ascent, and transmits data to the Iridium satellite system when at surface where it is localized by GPS. We thank Drs. Franco Coren, Angelo Camerlenghi, Vanessa Cardin and Davide Deponte of OGS for their cooperation.
