Western BLACK SEA -- Photo Album

08 - 09 June 2012

Two Italian profiling floats were successfully deployed in the Western Black Sea on 8-9 June 2012 from R/V Akademik with the help of oceanographers from the Institute of Oceanology, Varna, Bulgaria. These floats are Arvor-L instruments manufactured by NKE in France. They cycle between the surface and 700/1500 dbar every 5 days and drift at the parking depth of 200 dbar. They measure temperature and salinity at each ascent. They transmit data to, and are localized by, the standard Argos satellite system when at surface. We thank Drs. Atanas Palazov and Violeta Slabakova and other colleagues from Varna for their cooperation.

Argo-Italy is financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR)
