Long Term Ecological Research (LTER-Italia)
Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) is an essential component of world wide efforts to better understand ecosystem structure, functioning and response to natural and man-made impacts.
Since 1986, the time-series station “C1” in the Gulf of Trieste (GoTTs), in the northernmost part of the Adriatic Sea, represents a crucial site for marine LTER as subject to the interaction among several natural and man-induced forcing factors.
The major objectives of the GoTTs are to understand the functioning and to identify changes in the northern Adriatic marine coastal ecosystem.
